Tipton Park Redevelopment

By Pete S - Posted on 28 July 2011

Tipton Park is a living historic site. The official opening ceremony of Tipton Gyro Park #3 took place on June 21, 1924, and was part of the broad program by the Gyros called Playgrounds for Children.

Over the last 87 years, Tipton Park has been a gathering place for play and relaxation for the neighbourhood of Queen Alexandra and the surrounding communities.  Imagine the stories those elm trees could tell if they could talk.  A process to begin connecting the past with the present needs of the residents is about to begin, led by the City of Edmonton and the Queen Alexandra Community League.  The triggering factor is that the wading pool is scheduled to be retrofitted for a Spray Deck in 2012 and the community really needs to have a conversation about whether that is a need at this location.  This, then, provides an opportunity to discuss and create a plan for the whole park while investigating water options.

Several events are planned to bring neighbourhood residents together and facilitate the conversation.

Queen Alexandra Community League Invites YOU to join in the planning to re-create Tipton Park. Think creatively. Talk to your neighbours. Share your ideas. Get involved.

Below is the list of planned events for Sharing Memories and Shaping a New Vision:
